Ingredients for 4 servings

1 small avocado without skin, pit saved (1/2 cup or 4 ounces)

1 teaspoon chili powder

1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic

1 teaspoon lime juice

2 tablespoons finely chopped onions (1 ounce)

4 tablespoons chopped tomatoes (2 ounces); remove seeds before chopping 1 serrano chile, finely diced (optional)

Doc’s Lite Guacamole

Yes, avocados do have some calories (47 per ounce) due to their polyunsaturated fat, which is not generally viewed as the bad kind. We like to make guacamole for burgers with a good bit of chopped, naturally low-calorie tomato and onion, which will balance the calories added by avocado and kick up the taste.

Be sure to remove and discard all the seeds before chopping the tomatoes so that your guacamole won’t be watery. Mash avocado, seasonings, and lime juice and add pit back to prevent turning brown.

Next add diced onions, tomatoes and chile, then mix and serve. Most guacamole recipes don’t include tomatoes, but this one works great with burgers! Or course you can leave out the tomatoes if you prefer.
